Eugene's Premier Merimba Band

KUDANA means “to love one another”
in the Shona language of Zimbabwe.
This describes the essence of KUDANA MARIMBA:
to unite people with the heart and spirit of Africa.
This melodic, spiritual music of Zimbabwe, first brought to the U.S. by Dr.
Dumisani Maraire, inspired KUDANA founder Ong
Kar Walen to form the band in 1987.
Using seven marimbas, singing, drums, and percussion, this group invites enthusiastic
participation in joyful dance! Their energetic, visually engaging performances
of traditional and original songs create an uplifting experience, bringing Earth
rhythms and harmonies to the listener.
KUDANA continues to excite audiences of all ages
throughout the region, appearing at the Northwest Folklife Festival, Oregon
Country Fair, Eugene Celebration, Saturday market and many other events.
They are also available for private parties, and can offer an mbira set as
well as marimba.
