Legendteller and Flute Player

Since 1988, performing artist, Tom McCormack has carefully researched,
documented and presented Native American legends to audiences, including students,
across North America and in New Zealand.
Tom is a keynote speaker on Native
American cultural enrichment and he presents at schools, conferences, festivals,
fairs, powwows, museums and libraries. He is listed on the Nevada Arts Council's
Artist-In-Education and Oregon Arts Commission's Artist-In-Education / Artist-In-Residence

Anniversary Celebration.
Mr. McCormack weaves red-cedar-flute-playing through
the stories. He incorporates rattle, drum and clapper stick with his legends
and, as he tells his stories, some have described him as a shape-shifter as
he takes the role of one animal or another from dawn-time when the creatures
were people.
He was honored at the 1995 Dreamspeakerıs Festival for his
contribution to youthıs native identity and strengthening indigenous culture
through his performances.
This ancestral legendteller won a 1996 Parentıs
Choice Gold Award for his audio recording Tales from Western Tribes and
has released a new CD titled Legends From Western Tribes: Revisited.
Tom explains that his stories are given to us by the Creator and flow in harmony
with the rhythms and patterns of Mother Earth/Father Sky. In addition, Tom
teaches workshops on storytelling through the natural world to teachers and
native american educators and is a member of the National Storytelling Association.
