Jazz/Pop Singer and Songwriter Mary Kadderly brings to the stage a most distinctive
voice. Born in Portland, Oregon, Mary was surrounded by music throughout her
childhood. In her teens, she began performing, getting her start singing in
a jazz and blues band. "The first time I sang into a microphone, the music
bug bit me hard. From then on I was hooked"' she says. At the age of 19, she
started playing in hometown clubs, while studying Music and Theater Arts at
Portland State University. Graduating in 1985, Kadderly was by then regularly
performing in nightclubs, in concerts, and at festivals.
In 1991, she started
her record label, MARYMARGERT music. MARYMARGERT music lists 3 titles: mary
kadderly, downright bigtime, and I GO ZOOM (top-selling CD in the Northwest,
5 weeks in the top ten). She is about to begin her 4th recording project, another
album of songs she has written.
Mary's latest release, I GO ZOOM (all original
music) was nominated for best JAZZ and Blues album of 1999 and won her the
opportunity to perform at the CLIFFORD BROWN JAZZ FESTIVAL 2000, while on an
east coast tour.
Kadderly's music is played regularly on numerous radio stations
all over the country: NPR's KLCC, KLRR, KSMF, KMHD and KRCL as well as KINK,
KKJZ, K103, WJAA, and KNYC.
Mary, who also plays piano, continues to perform
on the nightclub, concert and festival circuit throughout the country. She
is currently writing music for an independent film, Open Mike.
Mary is an accomplished
actress as well, most recently playing the part of a jazz singer in the Robert
DeNiro movie, Men Of Honor. She has appeared in countless television/radio
commercials and magazine ads.
Kadderly is on the faculty of two Oregon Colleges,
Portland State University and Portland Community College. She also has a thriving
private practice teaching singing, piano, and music theory.
